Not all heroes wear capes… some wear high visibility vests!

Crossing Guards have a very important (and sometimes stressful) job. Students and parents depend on their Crossing Guards to help them cross the road safely all year long, in all kinds of weather and traffic. We would like to give students, parents, school faculty and the community in general the opportunity to recognize the Crossing Guards’ efforts this past year.

The OSC’s Crossing Guard of the Year Award is presented annually to a Guard who shows high levels of excellence and dedication to the important role of keeping our community’s children safe.

About the Contest

The contest will run from April 7th to May 16th, 2025. We will be awarding outstanding Crossing Guards in the following cities:

Ottawa

Three (3) winners

Nominate a Guard in Ottawa

Brockville

One (1) winner

Nominate a Guard in Brockville

Each winner will receive a $500 cash prize and will be honored with the OSC Crossing Guard of the Year Award. Additionally, an appreciation event will be held at one of the winning Guards’ schools in the first week of June in each city.

We are also planning to invite the Mayor in Ottawa and Brockville to issue an official proclamation for Crossing Guard Appreciation Week.

Surprise your guard with a small gift, card, or even just a high-five!
Download the OSC Coloring Sheet and present it to them.
Snap a picture or take a short video of yourself thanking your Guard and post it on social media – make sure to tag us!

The Ottawa Crossing Guard of the Year Award is presented yearly to a Guard who shows high levels of excellence and dedication to the important role of keeping our community’s children safe. The cash prize is generously sponsored by the OSC.
